What is Pat & Charlie?

“Pat & Charlie” is a lighthearted old expression that simply means traveling by foot. I use it as the banner for this project because the entire wellness framework is built on movement, discipline, and doing the work with your own two feet — literally and metaphorically.

Pat & Charlie is a simple, lived practice — a journal and a way of life. It’s the noble, steady work of reclaiming strength, clarity, and rhythm through modest, repeatable habits. This is not a “program.” It’s a posture: a commitment to show up, to measure honestly, and to let small actions compound into real change.

It began as notes on tea, rucks, scent, fasting, and resistance — and slowly those notes became a system. The result is a practical framework for men who want to be healthier, calmer, and more disciplined without noise or gimmicks.

The FACETS Framework

FACETS is the six-pillar engine at the center of the Pat & Charlie protocol: Fasting, Aromatherapy, Calisthenics, Exercise Walking, Tea and Sanctuary. Each pillar is simple by itself and powerful together — a practical architecture for renewal that fits into a real life.

F — Fasting

Fasting is discipline made practical. It quiets unnecessary hunger, resets metabolic rhythms, and gives your body time to repair. Start small — a daily 14:10 or 16:8 window — and notice how clarity and appetite control return.


A — Aromatherapy

Scent shapes the day. Nutmeg for warmth, eucalyptus for clarity, peppermint for cooling focus — simple oils used sparingly create an internal climate that supports calm, alertness, and better breathing.

C — Calisthenics

Simple strength — pushups, resistance bands, and controlled reps. Calisthenics builds usable muscle and resilience without bulky equipment. High frequency, moderate volume, and clean form are the rituals that matter.


E — Exercise Walking (Rucking)

Rucking is a wearable gym — steps under load that teach posture, endurance, and habit. Even 20 pounds changes how you stand and move. Accumulate lb-steps, track progress, and let daily distance become your baseline.


T — Tea

Tea anchors the day. It is ritual, warmth, and a liquid reset. From peppermint to elderberry, the right cups hydrate, calm, and help the body let go of what it no longer needs.


Sleep

S — Sanctuary

Sanctuary is the protected space where recovery becomes possible — a blend of sleep, stillness, and Sabbath that restores clarity and resets the rhythm of your life. It’s both a place you enter and a state you carry, the environment that keeps your strength, peace, and discipline intact.
